Topic: Implementing the Gatsby Benchmarks into practice

COA is pleased to be offering its well-respected programme of professional development for careers leaders, led by David Andrews OBE, again in 2018. The course has been remodelled to link more explicitly to the Gatsby Benchmarks of good practice. Recognising the pressures on schools around releasing staff, the course has been reduced to four days to make it accessible to a greater number of careers leaders.

The course will cover:

  • An overview of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) in schools
  • An examination of the changing labour market, developments in education and training, and the nature of careers in the 21st century
  • A review of CEIAG national policy and local practice
  • The Gatsby Benchmarks of good practice
  • An introduction to the theories of occupational choice and career development
  • Careers information - sources of information on future study options and the labour market; teaching research skills
  • Working with colleges, apprenticeship providers and universities
  • The careers education curriculum - frameworks, curriculum models, resources
  • Linking subject teaching to careers
  • Digital career management skills
